1. Rationale:
a. Describe the need or problem addressed by this activity.
(Indicate the customer, what benefits they will receive, and if possible, quantify the impact on the return on investment [ROI] if the Document is implemented.)
The flexible thin film PV modules have received considerable attention due to its potential applications in real life. A typical stretching situation is given during the mounting phase when the flexible PV modules is installed into the final position. The installation staff will pull the components when the PV modules are laid because the flexible modules are transported in rolls. Since the PV modules can be installed on different bases, the extension durability need to be qualified to avoid the damage of PV modules. When the flexible modules are mounted on a soft base, encountering wind and snow, the part of PV module will be stretched. Additionally, the flexible modules in the reused situation need move freely that will lead to be stretched. IEC61215 is the current dominant standard for thin-film PV modules. However, it doesn’t describe extension test for flexible thin film PV modules. Given to the uniqueness of the flexible thin film PV modules, it is vital to evaluate the extension durability for application. In order to ensure an accurate module stabilized output power value after a certain extension test, a new standard specific to flexible thin film solar modules needs to be established.
