SEMI New Activity Report Form (SNARF)

Activity Number: 5032
SNARF for: New Standard:Guide for Specifying c-Si Terrestrial Solar Cells

Originating Global Technical Committee: Photovoltaic (PV) - Materials
Originating Technical Committee Region: North America
Task Force in which work is to be carried out: PV Materials Task Force

1. Rationale: The supply chain begins with starting material and proceeds through wafers / substrates; SEMI specifications for these supply chain sections have been successfully developed and deployed. Their focus has been on manufacturing cost-down and yield-up. The next major supply chain section, terrestrial cells, can benefit from similar manufacturing-based attention. The topic has been suggested by SEMI members and their customers in Europe, Taiwan and North America. In early March, 2010, a new International Technology Roadmap for Photovoltaics (ITRPV) has emerged under the guidance of CMT, a group of German cell manufacturers operating within SEMI’s PV Group. This SNARF addresses a significant part of this activity.
