SEMI New Activity Report Form (SNARF)

Activity Number: 5005
SNARF for: Revision to SEMI E54.13, Standard for Sensor/Actuator Network Communication Specification for EtherNet/IP

Originating Global Technical Committee: Information & Control
Originating Technical Committee Region: North America
Task Force in which work is to be carried out: Sensor Actuator Bus Subcommittee

1. Rationale: The “Standard for Sensor/Actuator Network Communication Specification for EtherNet/IP” (SEMI E54.13) lacks specific support for various components of the SEMI E54 Sensor/Actuator Network standard (all subparts) added or revised since the original introduction of the SEMI E54.13 subpart. The proposed activity corrects this by enhancing SEMI E54.13 accordingly.
Rate the Estimated Effect on the Industry
2: Major effect on an industry sector - identify the relevant sector

Rate the Estimated Technical Difficulty of the Activity
I: No Difficulty - Proven concepts and techniques exist or quick agreement anticipated

2. Scope:
a: Define the areas to be covered or addressed by this activity or document:
The Revision proposes enhancements to SEMI E54.13 such as mappings of network-visible specific device model, and common device model attributes and services. These enhancements will be specified as appropriate to better align SEMI E54.13 with the whole of SEMI E54 in a manner consistent with current semiconductor industry deployment of the EtherNet/IP standard.

b: Expected result of activity
Revision to an existing Standard/Guideline

3. Projected Timetable for Completion:
a: General Milestones
a. Activity Start: 08/01/2010b. 1st Draft by: 04/01/2011
c. Preballot by: d. Technical Ballot by: 05/01/2011
e. Committee Approval By:07/01/2011

b: Activity Specific Milestones
a. Proof of Concept b. Acquisition of Resources:
c. Safety Checklist Completed

Safety Considerations:
The resulting document is expected NOT to be a Safety Guideline

Intellectual Property Considerations:
a. In complying with the standard or safety guideline to be developed, there is no alternative to the use of patented technology or copyrighted item(s)
b. The body of the standard and any appendices or related information sections will NOT include copyrighted material

Comments, Special Circumstances: In compliance with Section 15 of the Regulations, a signed statement from the Open DeviceNet Vendor Association (ODVA) holder of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for EtherNet/IP, is on file at SEMI as effected from the original activity upon which the E54.13 standard was first published.

Additional Comment for 6b:
The proposed revision makes no changes to the existing status of SEMI E54.13 EtherNet/IP related copyright or intellectual property considerations currently on file with SEMI.

Approval: Activity approved by Committee/GCS on July 14, 2010
