a. Describe the need or problem addressed by this activity.

The flexible thin film PV modules have received considerable attention due to its potential applications in our life. Since the PV modules can be installed with different shapes, the bending durability need to be qualified to avoid the damage of PV modules. IEC61646 is the current dominant standard for thin-film PV modules. However, it doesn’t describe bending test for flexible thin film PV modules. Given to the uniqueness of the flexible thin film PV modules, it is vital to evaluate the bending durability for application. In order to ensure an accurate module stabilized output power value after a certain cyclic flex test, a new standard specific to flexible thin film solar modules needs to be established.
