Standards New Activity Report Form (SNARF)
Date Prepared: 05/01/2020Revised (if Applicable):

Document Number: 6669
SNARF for: Revision of SEMI M13 - Specification for Alphanumeric Marking of Silicon Wafers

Originating Global Technical Committee: Traceability
Originating TC Chapter: North America
Task Force (TF) in which work is to be carried out: 5 Year Review Task Force
Note: If a new task force is needed, also submit a task force organization form (TFOF)

1. Rationale:
a. Describe the need or problem addressed by this activity.
(Indicate the customer, what benefits they will receive, and if possible, quantify the impact on the return on investment [ROI] if the Document is implemented.)
Benefits: Consolidation will clarify the relationship of Traceability standards: SEMI M12, M13 bring about common understanding and options available for best fit of companies in the supply chain

b. Estimate effect on industry.
3: Major effect on a few companies - identify the relevant companies
Sector or Company Information: Semiconductor fabrication foundries and silicon wafer manufacturers (OEM Tier-1 and 2)

c. Estimate technical difficulty of the activity.
I: No Difficulty - Proven concepts and techniques exist or quick agreement is anticipated

2. Scope:
a: Describe the technical areas to be covered or addressed by this Document development activity. For Subordinate Standards, list common concepts or criteria that the Subordinate Standard inherits from the Primary Standard, as well as differences from the Primary Standard:
To combine SEMI M12 and M13, keep M13, and make M12 obsolete. M13 will be edited in its entirety to include M12. Once M13 is approved and published, M12 will be issued for withdrawal.

b: Expected result of activity
Major revision to an existing Standard or Safety Guideline

For a new Subordinate Standard, identify the Primary Standard here:
