When items (Equipment and Materials) arrive at a customer site, they need to be processed in an efficient and timely manner (ensure appropriate information is available and complete) before they are accepted and used. Items include parts (such as hardware components like pumps, valves, etc) and consumables (such as gases, resist, etc)
There is currently no standard way of providing this information
• Each customer has different information they require for the various types of parts.
• Each supplier and sub-suppliers provide information in their own format, or not at all.
• The customer’s receiving department has to find the information from a mix of paperwork in the box, emails or faxes received or handwritten notes.
Companies develop their own way to provide information and can leads to errors and delays, and makes it difficult to provide traceability of the various pieces involved.

This proposal suggests to create a new Standard to define how labels to provide information about a part (Equipment and Materials) will be defined, including bar codes and/or QR code formats.
It will define a minimum set of information that needs to be specified and encoded (for example OEM Part #, OEM Batch #, OEM Serial Number) and how optional information can be provided by the supplier (for example expiry dates, supplier ID, quantity, etc)
