SEMI International Standards
SEMI New Activity Report Form (SNARF)

Activity Number: 4999
SNARF for: New Standard: Test Methods for Optical Properties of Electronic Paper Displays

Originating Global Technical Committee: Flat Panel Display (FPD) - Metrology
Originating Technical Committee Region: Taiwan
Task Force in which work is to be carried out: e-Paper Display Task Force

1. Rationale: Since e-Paper displays are reflective and bi-stable displays, illumination conditions and measuring geometries, affect the measuring results of optical properties. As electronic paper displays (e-Paper displays) are gaining more popularity nowadays, suitable standardized measuring methods should be proposed to evaluate the optical performance of e-Paper displays.
Rate the Estimated Effect on the Industry
2: Major effect on an industry sector - identify the relevant sector

Rate the Estimated Technical Difficulty of the Activity
II: Some Difficulty - Disagreements on known requirements exist but developing consensus is possible

2. Scope:
a: Define the areas to be covered or addressed by this activity or document:
Standardize the measurement methods, including illumination conditions and measuring geometries, and define the parameters for optical properties of e-Paper displays

b: Expected result of activity
New Standard
