Revised (if Applicable):

Name of Task Force (TF): PV Material Degradation Task Force

Global Technical Committee: Photovoltaic (PV) - Materials
Originating Technical Committee Region: Europe

1. Charter: (State the objective of the proposed TF.)
PV modules represent the central part of every photovoltaic installation. They are subject to different kinds of degradation, including degradation of the contained solar cells. The choice of the right material is crucial for preventing degradation and hence increasing the reliability of PV modules. Up to now, often internal standards have been established in order to meet quality requirements of the final product. Therefore the new task force will focus on

- Developing and maintaining standards regarding specifications for materials and starting products used in manufacturing PV modules with respect to degradation behavior

- Identify missing standardized test methods with regard to degradation modes

- Defining and developing common understanding of terms used in PV industry

- Educating industry in new standards

2. Scope: (Define the specific activities that the TF will conduct.)
In near term the TF will set up a working group for developing a test standard (or a guideline) for qualification of silicon solar cells and encapsulation materials with respect to their resistance against Potential-induced degradation (PID).

Other potential activities of the TF include developing or revising test standards and specifications for newly identified degradation mechanisms.

3. Formal linkages with TFs in other Regions/Locales: (Show each associated TF and its parent global technical committee; indicate nature of relationship – global TF, observer TF, etc.)
