Standards New Activity Report Form (SNARF)
Date Prepared: 12/01/2011Revised (if Applicable):

Document Number: 5222
SNARF for: New Subordinate Standard: Data Definition Specifications for a Horizontal Communication between Equipment for Larger Sized Substrate Oriented Photovoltaic Fabrication System to Doc.4804 "Specification for a Horizontal Communication between Equipment for Photovoltaic Fabrication System"

Originating Global Technical Committee: Automation Technology
Originating TC Chapter: Japan
Task Force (TF) in which work is to be carried out: Equipment Interface Specification (EIS)
Note: If a new task force is needed, also submit a task force organization form (TFOF)

1. Rationale:
a. Describe the need or problem addressed by this activity.
(Indicate the customer, what benefits they will receive, and if possible, quantify the impact on the return on investment [ROI] if the Document is implemented.)
Document #4804 is currently under development regarding specification for a horizontal communication (hereafter HC) between equipment for photovoltaic (hereafter PV) fabrication system.
As a production line which handles larger sized substrate is different from the one for smaller sized substrate such as crystalline in its tact time, material flow control, etc., Document#4804 is developed to provide common part of functionalities for both applications.
This subordinate standard covers the application specific “Data Definition” part for larger sized substrate oriented application.
This document is expected to provide scalable specifications to support sufficient HC functionality for lower implementation cost.

b. Estimate effect on industry.
2: Major effect on an industry sector - identify the relevant sector
Sector or Company Information:

c. Estimate technical difficulty of the activity.
II: Some Difficulty - Disagreements on known requirements exist but developing consensus is possible

2. Scope:
a: Describe the technical areas to be covered or addressed by this Document development activity. For Subordinate Standards, list common concepts or criteria that the Subordinate Standard inherits from the Primary Standard, as well as differences from the Primary Standard:
The scope for this document is defined as follows:

1. This document covers data definitions for both “General Data” and “Material Data” to implement HC specifications for larger sized substrate oriented PV fabrication system cases.
e.g.,
Data to identify material
Data to identify process for the material in equipment
Data to inform the role of the equipment to adjacent equipment

5. Safety Considerations:
The resulting document is expected:
NOT to be a Safety Guideline

NOTE FOR "to be a Safety Guideline": When all safety-related information is removed from the Document, the Document is NOT technically sound and complete - Refer to Section 15.1 of the Regulations for special procedures to be followed.

NOTE FOR "NOT to be a Safety Guideline": When all safety-related information is removed from the Document, the Document is still technically sound and complete.
