SEMI International Standards
Standards New Activity Report Form (SNARF)
Date Prepared: 07/07/2024Revised (if Applicable):

Document Number: 7277
SNARF for: Line Item Revision to SEMI E87-0524 - Specification for Carrier Management (CMS)

Originating Global Technical Committee: Information & Control
Originating TC Chapter: North America
Task Force (TF) in which work is to be carried out: GEM 300 Task Force
Note: If a new task force is needed, also submit a task force organization form (TFOF)

1. Rationale:
a. Describe the need or problem addressed by this activity.
(Indicate the customer, what benefits they will receive, and if possible, quantify the impact on the return on investment [ROI] if the Document is implemented.)
SEMI E87 was updated to define support for well-known names (WKN) During implementation, some issues have been identified by Task Force members. This line item revision will address issues related to WKN, as well as issues with other SEMI E87 functionality updated recently.

A comment from ballot R7116 asked the task force to consider a change to the Bind service transition

b. Estimate effect on industry.
2: Major effect on an industry sector - identify the relevant sector
Sector or Company Information: Device Manufacturers & Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)

c. Estimate technical difficulty of the activity.
II: Some Difficulty - Disagreements on known requirements exist but developing consensus is possible

2. Scope:
a: Describe the technical areas to be covered or addressed by this Document development activity. For Subordinate Standards, list common concepts or criteria that the Subordinate Standard inherits from the Primary Standard, as well as differences from the Primary Standard:
As part of this work, the Task Force will investigate:
· Address issues with well-known names defined in this Standard. For example,
o Host items related to new Carrier Complete Prediction don’t have WKN defined as they weren’t yet published when the WKN ballot was proposed. (e.g., CarrierMovementInterval, CCPredictedTimei).
o The WKN E87:DuplicateCarrierID is defined as the WKN for an event and alarm. WKN need to be unique.
o WKN for PortAssociationStateList and PortStateInfoList are listed for a DV in Table 39 – Well-Known Names for Variables, but these variables are SV.

· SEMI E87 doesn’t define WKN for Port-specific alarms. Some implementations support this. Should we define WKN so we have consistency to identify alarms for those implementations that do support them? (For example, E87:PIOFailure.#)

· SEMI E87 uses ‘must’ terminology for requirements. This needs to be updated to comply with the Style Manual’s Word Usage requirements.

· In ratification ballot R7116, Abnormal#2 was added, and at the beginning it says “A Bind service is previously received.” However, this also applies to the existing Abnormal#1. Consider adding the same content to the beginning of Abnormal #1.

The ballot can include any other changes to address features or defects, or issues with the Style Guide, raised by Task Force members during the development and review of the proposed changes related to these line item topics. Significant changes in scope will require a new SNARF in compliance with SEMI Regulations.

The resulting document is expected:
NOT to be a Safety Guideline

NOTE FOR "to be a Safety Guideline": When all safety-related information is removed from the Document, the Document is NOT technically sound and complete - Refer to Section 15.1 of the Regulations for special procedures to be followed.

NOTE FOR "NOT to be a Safety Guideline": When all safety-related information is removed from the Document, the Document is still technically sound and complete.
