1. Rationale:
a. Describe the need or problem addressed by this activity.
(Indicate the customer, what benefits they will receive, and if possible, quantify the impact on the return on investment [ROI] if the Document is implemented.)
Transparent displays have gained recognition for their wide-ranging applications as next-generation display technologies, including augmented reality systems, heads-up displays and digital signage etc.

Previous studies have introduced several metrics for evaluating the quality of see-through images, including haze, clarity and purity as well. Their findings underscore the need for evaluation approaches that align closely with human visual perception, expanding the scope of subjective quality analysis to improve the accuracy of optical measurements across various display applications.

Recent papers demonstrate that the Image-based Complex Wavelet SSIM (CW-SSIM) algorithm can successfully evaluate the optical image quality of seams in transparent tiled micro-LED displays, and the simulation method of Contrast Fine Optical Structure Scoring (CROSS) provides a reliable framework for image quality assessment in the development of transparent displays.

This standard will cover both methods mentioned above and propose a testing method for the optical image quality of transparent displays. This comprehensive approach aims to bridge the gap between subjective human visual perception and objective indicator evaluation, thereby improving the consistency of display sharpness and image quality assessment.

b. Estimate effect on industry.
2: Major effect on an industry sector - identify the relevant sector
Sector or Company Information:

c. Estimate technical difficulty of the activity.
III: Difficult - Limited expertise and resources exist and/or achieving consensus is difficult

2. Scope:
a: Describe the technical areas to be covered or addressed by this Document development activity. For Subordinate Standards, list common concepts or criteria that the Subordinate Standard inherits from the Primary Standard, as well as differences from the Primary Standard:
This work develops a practical image-based metric that uses the CW-SSIM index together with a simulation method that accounts for different PPIs and aperture ratios in transparent displays. The metric provides an objective way to evaluate see-through optical quality and helps bridge the gap between subjective perception and measurable results. Compared with existing approaches, it offers higher accuracy and consistency, enabling better optimization of transparent display technologies such as micro-LED and OLED.
